MISSION

Aguas Migrantes is a collective of migrant artist-educators based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Hidalgo, Mexico and Baltimore. Our mission is to engage with the regions we come from and reside in, leveraging our works and ancestral knowledge as tools to disrupt marginalization and erasure. We emphasize cultural exchange to build relationships through co-creation.

This project was born from our dreams to provide a dynamic cultural exchange to our people while interrogating negative stereotypes. As working class migrant artists, educators & organizers we weave webs between intersecting experiences. Though seeded by Sam Cortez and Vreni Michelini, the collective now includes Alejandra Perez, Ana Bedolla, Omar Navia, Onyinye Alheri and Plinio Hernandez as core members.

Rooted in our desire to highlight the wisdom and gifts of the communities we came from, we utilize art as a gateway to reclaim agency and create authentic opportunities for exchange while dismantling the oppressive systems of the industrialized world.
